Process
My work typically focuses on three main areas: residential extensions and loft conversions, whole-house refurbishments and remodelling, and new-build homes.
Every project starts with understanding how you live and what you want to achieve. If you are thinking about extending, refurbishing or creating a new home but are unsure where to start, I can offer an initial free, no-obligation consultation to talk through your ideas, explore what might be possible, identify potential challenges, and discuss any planning and design considerations.
I believe the process should be clear, collaborative and straightforward, working closely with you at every stage, from the initial ideas and measured survey through to concept design, planning and technical drawings.
Residential Extensions & Refurbishments

Measured Surveys & Existing Buildings
Understanding the existing building is the first step towards designing it well. I begin with a measured survey of your property, creating an accurate record of its existing layout, dimensions and key features.
Concept & Architectural Design
I explore different ideas and possibilities to find the right design for your home. I develop initial sketches and design options for you to consider, gradually refining the preferred approach into a clear and coherent design.
Planning Applications
I prepare clear and considered proposals tailored to your project and guide you through the planning process. I will advise you on the relevant planning requirements, if you need any permissions, prepare the necessary drawings and documents, and manage the application through to a decision.
Technical Design
Once we have agreed on the preferred design, I develop it into a detailed proposal suitable for the next stage of the project. I prepare the technical drawings and information needed to move from planning towards construction.
Where required, I can also coordinate with other professionals, such as structural engineers, to ensure all aspects of the design are properly considered.
I work with you to develop the final details, including materials, finishes, fixtures and fittings, and provide your chosen builder with the information needed to prepare an accurate construction quotation.
My aim is to make sure the design is well resolved, clearly documented and ready to move forward into construction.
Building Regulations
Building Regulations approval is separate from planning permission and is an important part of taking a project forward towards construction.
I prepare the drawings and information required for a Building Regulations application and can guide you through the submission process, including advising on the relevant fees and requirements.
As the project progresses, there may also be other approvals or legal requirements to consider, such as Thames Water approvals or Party Wall matters with neighbouring properties. I will advise you on these where relevant and help ensure the necessary requirements are considered as part of the design process.
Fees & Flexibility
I provide a clear fixed fee for each stage of the project, so you know what to expect and can stay in control of your budget.
As long as the agreed brief remains unchanged, the fee for each stage will remain fixed. You can choose which stages you would like me to undertake, and progress through the project at a pace that suits you.
This gives you the flexibility to decide how much support you need and when, while keeping the process clear and transparent from the outset.
